Lesson Plan for Conducting the Class
Introduction:
- Welcome visitors, check roll, and make announcements.
- Ask the class for their observations on Psalm 121 and “Unto the Hills.” Q: What is the primary message of the psalm and the song? Q: On what situation is it based? Q: With what mood should we sing it?
- Remind the class that this is the final session in this series and that today’s lesson will be primarily review and commitment.
Learning Experiences:
- Q: What are the four purposes of worship which we have studied? Q: What is a scripture we have associated with each?
- Q: What have you learned in our study that will help you participate better in the singing?
- Q: What have you learned in our study that will help you participate better in the Lord’s supper?
- Q: What have you learned in our study that will help you participate better in the offering as a time of worship?
- Q: What have you learned in our study that will make the time of preaching and reading of the Bible a better worship experience?
- Q: What have you learned in our study that will make the time of giving a better time of worship?
- Let’s sing a song of proclamation: “One Day!” (Sing two or more verses as time allows.)
- Look at “Worthy Art Thou,” by Tillit S. Teddlie, a now-departed song writer from the churches of Christ. Before singing this song, note expressions that are proclamation, adoration, communication, and edification.
- Look at “Blest Be The Tie That Binds.” Q: What connections with worship do you see in this song? (Proclamation, exhortation, edification by fellowship in worship.)
Application:
- On the sheet provided, write how the study in this class has strengthened your worship.
- On the sheet provided, write at least three commitments you will make about worshiping the Lord more effectively.
